Overview
Ferris Heights United Methodist Church is looking for a part-time Organist/Pianist in order to connect Ferris Heights families to the vision and strategy under the mission of the church: Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World. That will be organized through and around the church’s ministry strategy of: Build, Belong, and Serve. We worship on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m., with church school for children and adults starting at 9:00 AM. The service is a traditional style. Various vocalists and instrumentalists from the congregation periodically contribute special music to worship.
Requirements:
- Must have experience with organ and/or piano.
- Sufficient keyboard ability to sight-read hymns, liturgy, and accompaniments.
- Must exhibit a mature Christian faith.
Responsibilities:
- Provide quality and meaningful music to lift the congregation in music for the praise of God and for special celebration of worship
- Select appropriate music in conjunction with the Pastor that is reflective of the liturgical season and designated Scripture texts.
- Ability to play varying music styles ranging from classical to contemporary.
- Play for additional worship services and special services including Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve.
- Special holidays, such as Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter, may require additional practice times.
- Unless otherwise planned, provide appropriate music for the prelude, offertory, communion, and postlude of each service.
- Accompany any special music and/or soloists during worship.
- The organist/Pianist may be invited to play for weddings and funerals at the church and payment for these services is determined between the organist and the hiring party.
- Shall arrive at least 15 minutes prior to services.
- Meet with the pastor and/or the Worship Team as needed to plan events on the church calendar, identify needs that staff has, and resolve challenges and issues that occur.
- Oversee the tuning and maintenance of the organ and pianos within the approved budget and recommend maintenance needs to the Pastor.
- Complete and submit in a timely manner required paperwork
Salary
- Salary will be negotiable based on education and experience.
